Afterscale

CCA Workshop

Zoom in. Take a close-up. Enhance.

Digital culture is propped up by the ability to magnify endlessly. Higher resolution, artificial intelligence, and lossless pixelization allow images to appear to have infinitely smaller worlds within them, while digital modeling spaces can hold building-sized and fingernail-sized objects within the same file, to the same resolution.

What is architecture to make of scaleless digital culture? In the end, buildings exist at a definite size out of actual materials. They can’t scale up and down, and the closer we look we do not find new information.

Afterscale is a workshop that looks to two eminently size-specific architectural problems, material and structure, to consider a non-scaled working space for size-specific architecture.
